Portland is definitely our most visited city in the USA, and it might even be my favorite city!
Since our last Destination Diary, we’ve been back to Portland multiple times, and it’s time for an update!
Sean Ogle rejoins us on the podcast after several years to share his insider perspective on Portland and share some of his favorite spots around the city. Turns out he was holding out on us while we were there! Guess we’ll just have to go back!
We talk about some of the best restaurants in town, including brunch, pizza, food carts, happy hour, and just plain weird. As one of the best cities in the states for coffee, breweries, and desserts we of course touch on these as well. My favorite ice cream shop is there after all, how could we not talk about it!
What are you the most excited about visiting in Portland? Let us know @ExtraPackOfPeanuts!!

You are making me homesick! So much great Portland-ness here! Absolutely you must do Pok Pok or Luc Lac – yumm! We also love Little Bird in town – great happy hour! I’m also a huge Por Que No and Barista fan! If you come back in summer – skip the nude beach on Sauvie’s Island, but don’t miss the Farm Tunes night every Thursday at Kruger’s Farm – live tunes under lights and hay rides to the berry fields – and local food/beer – love it! Cheers from Copenhagen for now!
@Erin Gustafson – Well, I’m definitely coming back. In fact, I’ll be there in June and July once again (I can’t stay away)! I’ll hit Pok Pok this time, I promise, and Little Bird sounds fantastic. Thanks so much for the recommendations!
Trav, I love that this episode starts off with a description of each neighborhood in Portland. Can you start off all of your Destination Diaries like this? One of my favorite things to do when I travel to a new city is to get a feel for the personality of each neighborhood or area, and it’s so helpful when trying to decide where to stay!
@Catherine – I LOVE neighborhoods so much too (obviously) and I’ll definitely make an effort to give a bit more info on the neighborhoods at the beginning of Destination Diary episodes. Only problem is that sometimes I don’t spend enough time in an area to get as good a feel for the neighborhoods.
In Portland, since I’ve spent probably 2 months there (and Sean has lived there for a long time) we did have a much, much better grasp on the vibes of each neighborhood.
But challenge accepted – I’ll become even a bigger neighborhood nerd!
