Today we start a new series of podcasts; EPoP success stories!
Tiffany and Chris have spent the last two years preparing the move to location independence so they could do something amazing.
They’re going on a year-long (working) honeymoon!
Today we chat about the steps in the decision to become location independent, from transitioning to freelancing full time (Chris) and just finding anything that would work with their plans (Tiffany).
They share a story of listeners, just like you, who made it work for them. Will you be next?
This is part one of a two-part interview. Join us again tomorrow where we chat a little bit more about the actual trip itself and some travel mishaps that made Tiffany shudder while recounting them!
The last survey went SO well, that we’re doing it again! Click Here to fill out our survey (it only takes 5 minutes, we promise!) and get entered to win a 50 dollar Amazon Giftcard! We’ll randomly select one person who answers our survey to win!

Would you rather eat Thai food tonight, or go eat food in Thailand?
After seeing some of their friends having health issues in their 30’s Warren and Betsy Talbot sat down to a serious conversation to decide what they wanted their life to be like.
The next day they started Married with Luggage and laid out a budget.
And two years later they set out on around the world trip which has turned them to full-time travelers.
In this portion of our interview, Warren and Betsy chat about their decision to become nomadic, getting out on the road, and how, 4 years later, they bought a house in Spain to function as their home base.
With great advice that I know I’ll be following soon, this is an interview for people on all stages of their journey. From those considering the lifestyle to those who have been on the road for a while, there is something here for everyone!
Take the time to really learn yourself and figure out WHY you like to do things, and what those things are.
Then take action.
Byron achieves his location independence by living out of his van. He believes that each of us has the potential to be everything we want to be. If only we knew what that was.
Today we chat about the practicalities of living out of a van, Burning Man, and giving yourself the space to figure things out.
Byron leaves us with fantastic advice and resources and presents a case that will have you checking your own compass more frequently!
Byron lives out of a Toyota Previa, so a lot of his personal resources are specific to that marvel of modern engineering. Here’s some website he uses for that
The captivating peaks of the Rocky Mountains surround a beautiful five bedroom house overlooking the charming town of Breckenridge.
Yeah, that Breckenridge.
The insanely popular ski destination.
The place with world class restaurants and amazing hiking and biking.
And oh, those views; some of the most majestic America has to offer.
Add it all up, and you’ve got one of the most expensive places in the US to stay.
So how did I, a frugal traveler known to walk a mile in the rain to save the $5 taxi fare, end up in a 5 bedroom mansion complete with a BMW and a hot tub?
The answer is simple (and is also your key to unlocking a world of amazing travel opportunities):
Housesitting!
Heather and I have been members of the popular and ever-growing site Trusted Housesitters for almost two years now (which was founded by our good friend Andy Peck, whose interview you can find here).
And for the last two years, I would open my email every single day and lust after the amazing options available for a free house in various countries.
From castles in Ireland to bucolic estates in the French countryside, I knew one thing for sure…
Someday we needed to housesit.
Enter Breckenridge.
When this opportunity came through my email, I jumped on it.
It just so happened that spending three weeks in the Colorado Rockies at the beginning of fall fit perfectly into our schedule.
Finally, we were going to housesit…
And wow, what a house it was!
We had an absolutely amazing experience housesitting and taking care of two labs, Gracie and Rufus.
The house we stayed in was spacious and well decorated and the house owner provided every convenience we could need – including a car.
And not just any car – a BMW SUV!
There were plenty of rooms, and while every house sitting profile is different, this particular one did not mind if we had guests (within reason, of course).
Heather’s sister and our friend came out to visit and we all enjoyed hiking and relaxing in the hot tub with the amazing view of Breckenridge.
We arrived in Breckenridge just as the temperature started to drop at night.
It was the perfect opportunity to enjoy a nice soak in the hot tub and for the leaves to begin changing.

I LOVE housesitting because it offers an incredible opportunity for all people involved.
For the homeowner, they know that they’ll have people taking care of and watching after their house while they are away (and in some cases, their pets as well).
For the traveler, it provides the unique ability to stay in some amazing places across the world while having all the conveniences of home – and sometimes even more – for free.
Housesitting is part of the new wave of accommodations opportunities that every traveler should look to take advantage of.
From short weekend stays in penthouses in Manhattan to long term opportunities on remote islands, Trusted Housesitters has a wide variety of options, and with new ones being posted every day, there’s always something for everyone!

Often when we decide to follow a path outside of the norm people have one word for us.
Crazy
John Francis has heard that he used to describe his choices more times than he can count.
After the oil spill in San Francisco Bay in the ’70s, John Francis decided that he would help raise environmental consciousness and stopped taking all forms of motorized transportation.
People thought he was absolutely nuts.
While on this journey he decided that he would stop speaking for one day because he realized he had stopped listening to people.
17 years later he broke his vow of silence.
John joins us to talk about his journey of silence and walking and what he learned along the way. He shares the world’s reaction to his choices, and how his life changed as a result.
With some hilarious stories, some heartfelt moments, and some wisdom along the way, we find that maybe crazy isn’t as bad as people think.
Planetwalking is moving into a new phase, and you can help it get there by checking out John’s IndieGoGo campaign and spreading the word!
