Hey Travis! Wandering teacher here, working on summer break plans. Looking into Eastern Europe after hearing your enthusiasm about places like Bratislava and Georgia. Curious about one thing: how do you deal with the language barrier as you travel through vast spaces in a short time? Obviously you don’t learn all the languages on the plane/train/etc, so what’s your tip to city-hopping from a language standpoint? Thanks!
Jeff
@Jeff Paxton – Ahhh, wandering teacher, awesome profession! Two pieces of advice:
1) Definitely head to Eastern Europe. I’ve never been to Georgia (Nick has) but we both LOVE that part of the world.
2) Don’t worry about the language barrier. I never do, especially if you are ripping through countries that all have different languages so quickly. It can’t hurt to pick up a few words of each one (thank you, please, excuse me, hello) but honestly, half the time I don’t even know that much. It always works out…and it’s half the fun!
Have a blast and let me know where you end up heading to.
Great back to back episodes on the best cities. I might add a Scandinavian city like Copenhagen or Stockholm to the mix.
@Rich – Glad you liked it…I couldn’t add a Scandinavian city because personally I’ve never been to one, but I’m hoping to change that this year!
What are a few of your top 10?
I keep reading a lot about cities in South East Asia and western Europe these days, in various travel blogs and publications. It is good to see places like Mexico city, Kiev and Japan in the podcast. I especially love to hear about Mexico city as the places seems very colorful and nice. Excellently shot!
@Carmen Everywhere – Yeah, I think we covered a broad range of places. Pretty unique variety in this list, which is what made it so fun!
