How many times have you thought
“Man, I could make something better than this?”
Or
“I can’t believe that this doesn’t exist?”
Probably a lot, huh?
Well, back in 2009, while on a backpacking trip through Eastern Europe, Fred Perrotta had the same thoughts.
But instead of shoving them out of his mind, thankfully for us, he did something about them.
Because now the age-old travel problem that plagues many of us when we travel, the daunted “what should I pack in?” question has an obvious answer.
Introducing the Tortuga Backpack, one of the world’s best carry-on luggage options.
As someone who only ever travels with a carry-on, I am a huge fan of Fred’s and the things he is doing at Tortuga.
Today, we sat down to reveal all our best tips for traveling in just a carry-on, even for trips that stretch weeks or months.
And ladies, if you think this doesn’t apply to you, think again!
My wife, a fashion blogger, and expert has been traveling in just a carry-on for the last year!
Fred also pulls back the curtain on his entrepreneurial journey, discussing the mistakes he made, the successes he’s had, and giving invaluable advice for anyone wishing to create a physical product.
After listening to this podcast, you’ll never travel the same way again.
And you may just be inspired to finally turn that idea of yours into a reality.

I need a carry on that has wheels, b/c my husband and I both have bad backs. Any recommendations?
@gigi- I don’t have this pack myself, but I do have a backpack made by Osprey that I’ve used for the last 2 years on all my travel and so I know they make quality stuff. Here’s the wheeled version of the backpack I have:

Does anyone else have other suggestions?
The site that you link, One Bag, recommends against travel bags made from 1680D material, which is what is used for the Tortuga Backpack. Any thoughts?
He also recommends against any bag that isn’t a perfect rectangle. It’s a great site but doesn’t need to be taken as gospel.
Even with 1680D, the Tortuga only weighs ~3.5 lbs, so the weight isn’t a big issue. We’ve had bags in use (by very frequent travelers) for 2.5 years using this fabric and haven’t had any complaints yet. Expert and customer reviews here: http://www.tortugabackpacks.com/pages/travel-backpack-reviews.
Thanks for having me on the show, Travis. I forgot that it was an interview. I was just having fun talking travel and entrepreneurship, my two favorite hobbies.
@Fred Perrotta- It was my pleasure. Awesome show, and thanks for all the great insight. Look forward to doing it again sometime soon!
