What’s better than getting locked into a cage with a bunch of crazy sports fans in Croatia? Or making giant signs saying “King Kong Stinks!” at a WWE match? Or perhaps finding ingenious ways to sneak alcohol into the Kentucky Derby?
Well, you’ll just have to listen to find out.
Today Jason joins me to discuss our top 12 sporting events, from Argentina to Philadelphia (sorry Boston fans) we chat about what makes sporting events so special, and so universal.
We know that you have some great memories around sporting events (who doesn’t?), and I’m looking for suggestions to fill out my list of 100 sporting events to attend, so please, leave a comment below with your top games/matches/duels, whatever!
Do they even still have duels?

For high school Texas football, you should come to my old high school Birdville High School! :D Even if you don’t though, some schools in the DFW metroplex that have won state several times are Trinity High School in Euless and Carroll High School in Southlake. A lot of times high schools will get a chance to play at the AT&T Dallas Cowboy Stadium once a season too so you could also check out the amazing jumbotron there.
Another epic game in the south is the Red River Showdown. The Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns have one of the hugest college rivalries and every year they play at the Cotton Bowl stadium during the Texas State Fair in Dallas, Texas. It is a central meeting point since it is 3 hours from Norman, Oklahoma and 3 hours from Austin, Texas and the football ticket includes admission to the fair (hugest in the US and known for its fried food creations). They’ve had this game here since 1929. It is always sold out, and people still come to watch parties within the fair if they weren’t lucky enough to get game tickets. I’ve dreamed about going since I was a little girl. I still have never been, but I did this year go to the fair on game day. The atmosphere is awesome and people will just start chants around the entire fair. And for as much as you love tailgating, there are of course tailgates EVERYWHERE.
My favourite events:
the match of Hulk Hogan against Mr 1derful. Somewhere in 1983 or 1984, where Hogan got beaten to pulp and then got up again and finished off Mr 1derful. I particularly liked the shots of Hillbilly Jim in the audience. I know it was all staged but man these two guys were masters of illusion…
@jos- WWF (or WWE, whichever you prefer) truly is amazing for the athleticism, longevity, and ultimately, the spectacle. And that truly was the heyday!
